Yokohama-Mark Young Racing’s 15-year old phenom Iñigo Anton made history again when he won the Philippine Autocross Championship Series (PACS), beating his multi-titled father Carlos by only 1 point.
The Baguio Achievers’ Academy 10th grader beat his father for the Overall Championship. Both missed the last race of the series due to racing schedule conflicts.
“We are very happy to have won the Philippine Autocross Championship and never expected it this year,” said Iñigo after learning he was declared the overall champion. “My Dad and I really worked hard for this and besting him in the penultimate race by running a different strategy proved to be a good decision. I know he is more than happy to give me the chance to win it and he really wants me to beat him. I will never forget this.”
Carlos Anton of Advan-Castrol-Mark Young Racing decided Iñigo had to run in the Yokohama track day at the same day and missed the race with his son. This gave Iñigo the Overall Championship including the Open Class Championship as well.
“I’m very happy for Iñigo as we battled all throughout the season,” explained Carlos. “Iñigo was ahead of me by 1 point in the Overall Championship and missing the race was no problem as he really deserved the championship. In the end, Iñigo was the best Anton that won the championship.”
Both Antons will now contest the MP Turbo Rally of Champions (ROC) series with each winning one class each, with Iñigo taking the premiere Legends Class against his dad. Carlos successfully defended the Present Champions class against his son. The two will battle it out on November 23 to 24 in the next two ROC rounds at Clark Global City in Pampanga.
The Antons are backed by Yokohama, Advan, Mark Young Racing, MP Turbo, Mohspeed, Cars Unlimited, Kart Plaza, Kilton, Parts Pro, Special Stage and JSD Autosport.
