The last thing I would write about is giving credit to the NBA. But this time they are right in holding very saleable games during the holidays when most people do nothing but eat and drink and shop and shop.
Especially when the holidays are that looooonnng. When most sports-loving Filipinos are looking around for some action or entertainment on lazy days. They even played a lot of games on Christmas and New Year’s Day. Full house. Imagine if the PBA finals between Meralco and Ginebra were played for a week during the holidays? When most families were celebrating their noche buena, reunions, etc? While enjoying their “deadly” lechons? I’m not fond of giving unsolicited advice to PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial and Chairman Ricky Vargas cause these two are really good friends of mine but again, that’s what friends are for. Right? And it’s also harder for the finalists only to keep on practicing during the holidays when they are suppose to be home with their families and enjoy the Season. This is one time I truly miss the PBA, whoever wins. And I usually don’t.
Calm before the storm
Watch out for the opening of the next session in the Senate. The SEA Games ain’t over till it’s over. The Blue Ribbon Committee will hold its session live on TV again with the resolutions presented before Christmas and before the Games begun by Senators Bong Go, Ping Lacson, Franklin Drilon, and Imee Marcos to investigate the budget spent on the Games. And with the threatening message of Speaker Alan Cayetano during the SEA Games closing ceremony in Clark, guess the Senate opening salvo for this new year will be something to look forward to.
UAAP Volleyball ready to rumble
After the exciting volleyball games in the SEA Games recently, everyone has been waiting for the UAAP to open and continue the rising fever. Honestly, it opened the eyes of everyone that volleyball can be more exciting than our national sport basketball when played well, especially on very close games. If the officials were looking for a way to promote this masa-loving game, this was it. Just another unsolicited advice, but this time to UAAP. Please don’t play the men’s volleyball in the morning. Schedule it before the women’s game in the afternoon or do it on separate days, but not in the morning cause our men’s team in the SEA Games drew more crowd and excitement than the over-hyped women’s team.
My fearless forecast for women’s crown? Defending champion Ateneo and fierce rival multi awarded De La Salle will still slug it out. But watch out for rookie-laden Adamson this year. Saw them few months ago in the preliminaries and they might just spoil everyone’s dream. For men, guess Ateneo still has an edge over NU and Adamson. But then, you never know. That’s why SEA Games defending champion Thailand lost to our never say die boys. See you at the game guys. Happy New Year everyone. It’s showtime.
