Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Chairman Abraham Mitra Jr. admonished the Alabang Country Club and Club 515 for organizing a tournament, an activity prohibited during the general community quarantine (GCQ).
All non-professional sports tournaments are prohibited during GCQ, according to the government’s Joint Administrative Order (JAO) General Guidelines 3.
The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) and the National Task Force (NTF) against Covid-19 are now investigating the issue.
“Our group has forwarded it to the IATF already and the NTF was already given instructions to implement the decision. I am not at liberty to disclose it,” Mitra said on Thursday.
Initial reports said the GAB and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) found out that the Alabang Country Club hosted an intra-club tournament organized by Club 515 last August 28 to 29.
“The JAO group has finished its investigation and has submitted its findings to the IATF through the DoH (Department of Health). We hope that those found to have violated the guidelines be sanctioned,” said PSC Chairman William Ramirez.
It wasn’t the first time that a golf club was called out for violating quarantine protocols. Sherwood Golf and the Country Club in Trece Martires City were ordered closed indefinitely by Cavite Gov. Juanito Remulla last Wednesday for holding tournaments during GCQ.
