Filipina tennis player Alex Eala has made history again, by being the first Filipina to be the world No. 2 under the girls’ junior category of the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
With 2,148.75 points and having played 24 events, she was ranked second behind Elsa Jacquemot of France with 2,261.75 points.
Eala was previously world No. 4.
“Happy with my performance and thank you again for all your support! It has truly been an amazing week!” Eala wrote on her Facebook page.
Rounding up the Top 10 list were No. 3 Andorra’s Victoria Jiménez Kasintseva, who was previously world No. 1, followed by France’s Diane Parry, Ukraine’s Daria Snigur, Russia’s Polina Kudermetova, America’s Robin Montgomery, Germany’s Alexandra Vecic, Belarus’ Kristina Dmitruk, and America’s Alexa Noel.
Eala was the first Filipina to win a Grand Slam title in the Australian Open junior girls’ doubles tournament alongside Indonesia’s Priska Madelyn Nugroho.
Eala made the semifinals in the junior girls’ category of the Roland Garros French Open, where she lost to eventual champion Jacquemot.
